Joseph T. Skinner, PE Named as Greenhorne & O’Mara
New President & CEO
May 1, 2012 – paul/lawrence associates are pleased to announce that Joseph T. Skinner, PE, has been named by Greenhorne & O'Mara as its new President & CEO. With more than 39 years of engineering consulting experience under his belt, Joseph Skinner brings a wealth of engineering and consulting experience. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1973 and originally sold his own business to the company. Mr. Skinner now is its new president and CEO. Skinner, formerly the company's regional vice president, has been with G&O for the past nine (9) years. paul/lawrence associates were retained by Greenhorne & O'Mara to undertake the national search, with Larry S. Imely, CEO and Paul C. Stefunek, Chairman as the search consultants managing the assignment.
In his new role, Skinner seeks to identify where funding is going to be spent by paying close attention to capital improvement programs and getting involved as early as possible."The public qualification-based selection process differs from the private sector. The latter is based on relationships," said Skinner. He is also is involved with the company's Energy Program Team, which senior managers started to focus on the growing sustainable-energy market.
Larry Imely stated that "Greenhorne asked that we come in and identify a number of outside CEO-type candidates to compare against their internal candidates. We brought a number of people to the table and evaluated them as well as Joe Skinner. In our opinion, Joe's experience, leadership and understanding of the business and their markets, gave him considerable advantage points in being ultimately selected as the new CEO. Greenhorne will definitively benefit from his leadership and vision."
Greenhorne & O'Mara employs 530 people and has 17 branches in seven states. The 61-year-old company, which reported $72.6 million in revenues in 2011, ranked 145th among the top 500 design firms in a 2011 Engineering News Record survey. The company's projects include a five-year, $50 million design contract to support the Army's base realignment in Norfolk, Va., and a $60 million contract to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency in four of its 10 regions nationwide.
